Filming New Ideas 3

This was our final filming slot in which we gained all of the shots we needed to create the music video to the best of our ability. We re-shot the basis of the whole video again however focused intensely on some problem areas which were affected by natural lighting, such as the bathroom and bench scene.

We then went on to film the friend/bench scene again as previously during filming the natural lighting from the sun was not continuous and so this caused us to have to re shoot:

We used different angles of Alice holding Jessie's hand, so that we were sure of which one we wanted to use:

We have now finished filming and will go on to edit the whole music video with these new shots which will hopefully be more successful. By re-shooting the majority of the video again we as a group feel more confident when deciding which shots we need to use in order for our product to look professional and comparable to real media products. By having the same shot in a variety of angles we are able to convey the story thoroughly whilst portraying our skills of how to use media technologies when making a product.

Filming New Ideas 2

As the first set of filming lacked continuity we have organised to film the scenes again. We will film the whole music video start to end over two days and hopefully we will have completed our work by then and not have to re shoot anything else. We are sharing out our editing of the filming equally so that each member of our group gets a chance at making decisions with our work, and after we sit together as a group and watch them back whilst correcting each other to make sure that we have the best quality work possible.
Here are the shots we obtained whilst filming:

The Bench Scene:
This scene involves Alice walking down the road to a bench where she plans on meeting her friend. She holds her phone as she walks down the road to convey continuity within our work. The camera then has a close up shot of Alice's phone as her friend has replied to her text agreeing to meet her. Alice then sits on the bench and waits for her friend. Whilst she is waiting the camera has a sequence of close up shots of Alice's face which builds up tension in the video and allows the audience to become aware of how isolated and alone Alice feels at this time. Alice's friend, Jessie, then arrive and the camera will do a follow shot/over the shoulder shot of her so that Alice is still in view of the camera. As Jessie sits down Alice puts her head in her hands and Jessie comforts her. Alice then raises her head and tries to hold Jessie's hand/stroke her leg and this makes Jessie feel uncomfortable, we then have a reaction shot from Jessie. The camera then has an extreme close up of Alice's mouth as she says 'I Love You' to Jessie. Jessie then stands  up and walks away, rejecting Alice and leaving her sitting on the bench alone, in distress.

As you can see, we could not use these. Shown below is the clips of Alice touching Jessie's hand and Jessie's reaction.

The Bath Scene:
Throughout the whole video there will be cut aways in black and white of the bath scene to portray Alice's future within the video. Alice walks into the bathroom and immeadiatley runs the bath. She then turns to the mirror and looks at herself, whilst running the sink tap and rubbing her face with water, so that her make up is smeared and messy. The camera will convey close up of Alice's hands and face to the audience so that they are aware of her mental state. Alice will then turn to the bath and turn the taps off. She then steps into the bath fully clothed and lays down. After looking around warily and crying, Alice ducks her head under the water and tries to stay there however she ultimatley comes out of the water. The camera will show shots of Alice from close up, over the shoulder and eye level so that the audience are aware of her state.

Next, we wanted to do our first shooting of Alice in the bathroom.

Coming in the door we shot her from all different angles:

From the front:

Follow shot:

The video above is not successful as Alice goes to the taps before going towards the bath. This did not maintain continuity.

The one shown below was more successful:

Shown below is close up and extreme close up shots of Alice when she is taking her make up off. We wanted these close ups to convey her emotions:

We also shot some videos through the mirror. One is shown above and one below:

We then decided to take videos of the running taps. To set the scene.

Filming Alice getting into the bath was crucial as we could only do it once:

This was also the same with Alice going under the water as if she did it again the video would not have continuity.

Birds eye view:

Side view:

We are happy so far with this filming however at some points Alice accidentally looks into the camera which is a problem and we will need to re shoot those shots. Overall filming is going well and we are on target to achieving a good music video.

Filming New Ideas 1

After deciding our new ideas we got together as a group with Alice and re shoot the main sections of the video again. We agreed that the new shots were better and more organised, here are the shots we obtained during filming:

These videos were quite successful however we will need to re shoot the scenes again in order to overcome the problems to do with shadows and lighting. We are now aware of which angles we need to use in order for this scene to be successful.
Some of the shots have visible shadows of us filming the scene which we will need to sort out and we also need to achieve more shots of Alice in a tilted angle looking down on her, as although she is the main character in the video we need her to look inconvenient to match the feel of the music video.

5th Filming - Classroom Scene

Upon our fifth time of filming we chose to record the school scene, in which Alice and her teacher have an argument and Alice leaves the room. We were lucky enough to be able to use our own media teacher and the rest of our media class during filming which was very helpful. We made it so that Alice was sitting closest to the teacher, so that she was aware of Alice's actions of misbehaviour and not listening. We decided to have the teacher giving out work back to students and Alice would be the only person in the class that failed, and so an argument begins; Alice rips up her work and the teacher asks her leave, thus making Alice angry and she storms out of the room. This will then lead straight on to Alice leaving school and taking off her badge, she will then walk down the lane back to her house and remove her blazer whilst doing so, to be getting rid of all of the remnants of school from her appearance.

Here are the photographs that were taken during this period of filming:

These are the video's we achieved in this period of filming:

The first shots we filmed were general shots of the classroom and the lesson to allow the viewer to be aware of the environment and the start of the story.

We then decided to film our teacher giving out work to her class, and giving positive feedback which can be seen through her actions. However, when she got to Alice, who's work was not so good, an argument begins:

We then filmed a shot of the teacher marking Alice's work, so that the viewer will be aware as to why she is so angry when giving Alice her work back:

We also filmed some reaction shots of the pupils in the class towards Alice's behaviour and the tension in the lesson:

We filmed the argument between Alice and her teacher in the two point of view shots, which we had planned to do from the initial stages, we also did a side view:

Lastly, we filmed Alice leaving the classroom/being sent out:

We will now edit this scene and ask for feedback from our teachers and peers.

Filming Schedule

We were discussing with our media teachers which rooms were free and when we would be able to film. We will be filming the school scene next in which Alice engages in an argument with her teacher and leaves the room, and we are using our own media teacher. Below presents an email from our media teacher to another teacher asking about free rooms so we are able to plan when we can next film.

Update on planning and filming

After looking back at our own work and having feedback from our teacher, we are aware that the scene in which Alice and her mum have an argument is quite unclear. We want our music video to have continuity and run clearly with no confusion, and so we have decided to re shoot the scene, however as this scene follows on from Alice leaving school we will convey Ashleigh (Alice's mum/older sister) to be putting the phone down or receiving a message from the school as Alice enters so that the audience are aware of why she is so angry at her daughter.
If this is unsuccessful we have been discussing whether or not to change this particular scene to one with Alice arguing with a boyfriend or group of friends. However, we are still undecided on this and will make a proper decision after we have tried our first idea, as we would like to stick to our original ideas.

The image above portrays how I have been communicating with my teacher through Blogger. Also in lessons me and my group have been receiving feedback on our filming and planning. So far, it has been quite successful however we are constantly trying to improve our work.

4th Filming - Mum Argument Scene

The fourth section we decided to film to contribute to our music video, is the scene in which Alice enters her home (Jessie's house) and has an argument with her mother. The actress we are using as Alice's mother is, Ashleigh. Considering that Ashleigh is the same age as us, we received some criticism about using her in our video, however after removing her make-up, tying her hair back and dressing her in particular clothing, we feel that she does look older. We are unable to find a willing actress who would look like Alice's mother in our video, and so if these shots are not to our satisfaction we may either have to find a new actress or change the story line to Ashleigh being her older sister as this would be more believable

As Alice is supposed to come from a troubled background we decided to throw clothes around the floor and empty food packets along with beer cans in order to give the right mise en scene for this section of our music video. We dressed Ashleigh in pyjamas and a dressing gown and instructed her to be holding a remote control and beer can in her hand as Alice enters. There would also be a cigarette packet and lighter on the arm of the sofa in which she would be laying on. Alice will then enter through the door and sit on the sofa diagonal to Ashleigh and they will begin to speak to each other. As the audience will not be able to hear the conversation we gave them basic lines to prompt them when acting, as it would make it easier. Alice will then stand up and begin shouting at her mother and the camera will convey her to be the dominant character, however as Ashleigh stands up the camera will portray her as more prominent considering she is the mother. We panned around them both arguing with each other and have a shot reverse shot of them both shouting at one another. Alice will then snatch the beer can out of Ashleigh's hand and kick the empty cans on the floor and storm out of the door again.

Here are the photographs we took as we were preparing and filming.

 Preparing Ashleigh:

 Ready for filming:

Here are the photograph's we took as we were preparing our location:
We wanted to make the room look unclean and messy so we threw clothes around the floor and used some empty beer and rubbish packets to add effect around the sofa.

During filming Alice and Ashleigh were struggling to argue on the spot, so we decided to give them a rough script to give our scene structure and make it seem more believable.

These are the photograph's that were taken during filming:

These are the video's we retrieved whilst filming for the fourth time:

The next two clips are 360 degree pans of the argument:
